Possibly one-of-a-kind, early and spectacular Karl Kipp lidded circular jewelry box with applied German Silver squares and inset jade stone. About 5.5 in. wide by 2 in. high. Signed KK. This exceptional uncataloged piece shows the Viennese influence on Kipp's early work circa 1910-1912.

Possibly one-of-a-kind, early and special Roycroft lidded circular jewelry box with square faceted handle and stunning circular hammering. About 5.5 in. wide by 4.25 in. high with original ooze leather liner. Signed early Roycroft mark but probably by Karl Kipp. Shows Viennese influence 1910-1912.

Value: no auction record.

Rare, early, and valuable jewelry boxes with applied German silver squares. About 6.5 in. wide by 3.75 in. deep. The top one is just about perfect and includes the original lock, key, and suede lining. The clasp and pin on the second one have been repaired, and the hasp is missing on the 3rd one. The bottom one appears excellent.

Note that the 3rd one and the bottom one have smaller silver squares while the top two have bigger squares. Just a little design variation I suppose.

Value: 5/02 Rago the 2nd box sold for $13,000 plus premium. 1/03 Rago the box on top sold for $14,000 plus 15% premium. Early '03 the bottom box sold for $12,750 on eBay, then another nice one sold on eBay in 2006 for $6,500. So, it seems the high prices in 2002-2003 drew a couple more onto the market, but then prices started dropping. I suppose the next one might be $7500+ now that pent-up demand has been somewhat sated.

Large, rare and very desirable cigar box with decorative conventionized tooled designs with polychrome highlights. About 11 by 7 by 3.5 inches.

This particular box design doesn't appear in any catalog I've seen, but based on the design and construction I would guess it was made circa 1916-1919. I had actually never seen this box form until these two showed up within a few weeks of each other on ebay -- strange!

The one on top is original finish in very good condition (large pic1) (large pic 2).

The one at bottom was refinished by Mike Adams (large pic)

Value: $5000+ original finish; the refinished one sold for $3300 3/05 ebay.

Extremely rare Karl Kipp box with tooled decoration. About 6.5 in. wide by 3.25 in. deep by 2 in. high. Probably made 1912-1915. Signed KK. This box is awesome. It has everything going for it: rarity, design, craftsmanship, and condition. I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves.

Value: I've never seen one sell, but I would guess $2,500-3,500.

Another very rare Karl Kipp box with tooled decoration. Compare the design/decoration with the one above. About 6.5 in. wide by 3.25 in. deep by 2 in. high. Probably made 1912-1915. Signed KK.

Value: Obviously there are some condition issues with this one (missing clasp, finish, dings, etc), and as a result it sold low at Rago's around year 2000 (under a grand I think). If one were to show up in excellent condition, value would be the same as the one above.

Super rare bonbon box with tooled poppy design on the lid and original glass insert. One of three I've seen.

Value: One in excellent condition with the glass liner sold on ebay 3/02 for $2,475. It drew a lot of bids, so $2,500 is a good estimate of current market value.

Rare large box with rivets. About 10.5 in. wide by 7.25 in. deep. Based upon the prominent use of rivets, this box is probably a Victor Toothaker design. Every one of these that I've seen has included the "Dold" inscription on the front, and sometimes a monogram on top. So they were probably some kind of corporate commission. They all also have been brass plated, except this one here, which I suspect was refinished brown. I'd really prefer to have a pic of a brass one, since I believe that's the way this form should be illustrated.

Value: This actual box sold for $4,000 6/03 on eBay, which I think may have been a bit high assuming it was refinished. But I don't know for sure, so....? I would think that McConnell's estimate of $1,800-$2,500 would still be about right for one with its original brass finish in decent condition.

Big cigar box. About 9.5 by 6 inches. All the boxes above are particularly special because they have unique design elements and rarely come up for sale. However, for some reason all Roycroft boxes seem to be hard to find, so even a later simpler box like this is special. Old Brass finish in very good condition.

Value $750-1,000.
